10 RACIST MOMENTS IN DISNEY MOVIES

We’re not having a go at Disney. We love Disney.

But like a lot of cultural artefacts such as movies and even cartoons, you can track where we are as a society at a point in time.

With each generation we have made progress towards equality, but we still have a long way to go. The point of being aware of these kinds of things is to understand how we may have formed implicit biases or normalized racism without even knowing.

Rather than erasing it like it never happened, it’s helpful to acknowledge them with the relevant caveats so we can learn not to do them again. And kudos to Disney, that’s what they did in October 2020 when they issued a warning about racist stereotypes in older cartoons such as ‘The Jungle Book’, ‘Peter Pan’ and ‘Dumbo’.
